Course Description & Objectives:

This course is intended to help the learner understand and explain the differences between standards, code, and laws.  They will learn what different occupancies are, how to determine the correct occupancy, and the type of hardware required by code.  They will learn about IBC as it relates to locking hardware and will be able to identify allowable projections, mounting locations, and maximum operating forces.  They will be able to explain how a lock should behave in an egress situation and what to look for when doing a mandated door inspection.  Learners will be able to understand how a fire rating opening works and how to identify, fix, and report deficiencies.  Finally, this course will teach aspects of NFPA 101, 80, 70, and the ADA.
